The Hasal are also called Hasalaru, Hasagullaru. The term Hasala is derived from the Kannada word Hasala which means a ‘child’. The Hasala migrated to Chikkamagalure and Shimoga districts in Karnataka from their original habitat of Dakshina kannada district when they moved to the tea and coffee plantations work as labourers. While working as labourers in the plantations their masters called them ‘Child’ or ‘Hasula’ which became a rearm of reference.

Self concept is a set of self-identity and self-schemas which, together, form a person that an individual perceives himself-to be. It shapes his cognitions, feelings, actions and attitudes. It is said to be the ‘Core’ of personality. The present study is designed to know the self-concept of Women Bankers of Nationalized and Other Banks of Kamrup (Rural) District of Assam. Purposive sampling method was employed to select the sample of 150 Women Bankers. Data were collected by using Dr. (Ms) Mukta Rani Rastogi’s self-concept scale. Both the descriptive and inferential statistics were used to analyze the data. The major findings revealed that the self-concept of Women Bankers is very high and there exist no significant difference in self-concept among the Women Bankers of Nationalized Banks and Other Banks.

Assam is the land of villages and agriculture is her main occupation. A majority of state’s population live in the rural areas. More than 75 percent of its population directly or indirectly engaged in agricultural activities. Out of the total geographical area of 78.43 lakh hectares, 41.60 lakh hectares are the total cropped area and 35.83 percent is under net sown area covering 28.11 lakh hectares. The cropping intensity is 152.43 percent. The contribution of Agriculture to the economy of Assam is more than 18.0 percent at constant prices (2004-05) to the net State Domestic product in 2011-12 (quick estimate).Paddy is the major crops in state among the varieties of crops. Although crop diversification and positive movement of cropping intensity as a result of a little improvement in the technique of production raised agricultural production in the state. But the agricultural production of the state is much below the expectation as compared to the many other states in the country like Madhya Pradesh, Punjab and Haryana etc. Consequently, a disparity in the agricultural productivity of the state with the rest of India arises.

The State of Kittur began its career under the patronage of the kings of Bijapur in the year 1585 and ended it by absorption in the territories of the East India Company. In the year 1624 for a short interval, it was subordinate to the Moghal Empire from 1586, when the Bijapur kingdom was conquered by Aurangzeb, until sometime after his death. During the period, unrest which followed subsequently till Karnataka was over-run by the Marathas in the regime of Bajirao-I, the state was probably independent and there after till the time of the Maratha war in 1818 it was subordinate to the Peshwas. According to the “Sanad” issued in this year by the East India Company it became a vassal state of the company until 1824.
